Celebrating the Glory of God in reinforced concrete seems counterintuitive. Reinforced concrete is for highway overpasses and military bunkers, and the Wilshire Christian Church, built from 1925-27 on the northeast corner of Wilshire and Normandie, has an underlying crudeness and brutality that cannot be hidden. The neo-Romanesque-Gothic design here is the work of architect Robert Orr, who did his best to hide the core ugliness of this massive bunker. Slap on a lot of terra cotta detailing....
