The Bauhaus school was founded by the architect Walter Gropius in Weimar in 1919 and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe was its architect-director from 1930 until 1933, when the school was closed. The new Nazi regime said it was a center of communist intellectualism. Whatever – the architecture was clean and cool and not political at all. But there was no point in arguing about it.
