In the middle of a July heat wave everything looks frightening – Beverly Hills City Hall, 1932, William J. Gage and Harry G. Koerner in the Spanish Revival Churrigueresque style, after the architect and sculptor, José Benito de Churriguera (1665–1725) – this is the extreme, expressive and florid decorative detailing of the late seventeenth century. Now on a hot summer day in Los Angeles it induces madness. ~ Friday, July 12, 2019
